In long awaited moments of Prayer Warfare it came to pass that God showed Rev Joseph Mathew, a vision to start a establishment for His name to be glorified The vision came far down to the land where the disciple of Jesus Thomas had visited, the land sophisticated with innumerable religions, castes and colors of people is the land of India. If we perceive this land it is packed with millions of gods and goddess and soaked in orthodox religious practices of the pagan order. Gospel penetration is a hard-core effort but the rock has to be crushed to pave the way for the living God's kingdom to be established. Similar to the words of Isaiah, Lord Here am I send me said Rev Joseph Mathew and thus Gospel targeted in India. The vision came in a spectacular manner through the confirmation of the Holy Law the Scriptures, on 16th April 1994.

Each move set forth was divinely inspired, guided and advised. Wisdom from heavenly abode in the element of flesh and blood created the stepping stone to success. God wanted this vision to be well established hence He laid the foundation stone in a place called Basvanagar, Bangalore where Upper Room Mission Office rests.

The Upper Room Mission is a Christ centered, Bible based ministry established to inspire and challenge the Body of Christ to world wide prayer and to reach the unreached with the life changing Gospel of Jesus Christ at any cost that none perish.

Rev. Joseph Mathew was born and brought up in Kerala, South India. In his early childhood he went through the "valley of the shadow of death", during which time his mother dedicated him for God’s work. At the age of 11, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord. He was baptized in water at the age of 16, but had already been filled with the Spirit, according to Acts 2:1-4, 10:44-4. In 1982 the Lord opened a door for him to come to the USA, and blessed him with a good job. Finally at the beginning of 1987, the Lord spoke to him through a scripture verse. "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him, will NEVER THIRST. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life" (Jn. 4:13). Thanks be to God, the Living Water that flows from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ quenches the thirst in our spirits. "Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake; some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the Heavens and those who lead many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever" (Da.12:2-3). The Lord to spoke him about what a wise man does. "He that winneth souls is wise" (Pro. 11:30).

After graduating from the Bible College, by God’s grace, he has been preaching and teaching in USA and India. He has been blessed with wonderful wife, Dr. Ammini Mathew and two children Jimmy and Jennie.

After a missionary trip to India in August 1993, the Lord spoke to our Founder and President Rev. Joseph Mathew through the following scripture verses: "There is the sound of a heavy rain" (I King. 18:41). When Elijah heard His Voice in his spirit, he climbed to the top of Mt. Caramel, bent down to the ground, put his face between his knees and prayed until he saw the physical manifestation of that heavy rain. Likewise, the Lord has instructed Rev. Mathews to start prayer cells all over the world so that such a heavy rain (mighty spiritual revival) may be manifested in our times. Like the prophet Habakkuk prayed, "LORD, I have heard of your fame, I stand in awe of your deeds, Oh LORD, Renew them in our day; in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy" (Hab. 3:1-2). By His Grace we have started hundred’s of prayer cells and have thousands of prayer partners.
